Music & Sound
Music and sound design experiments connected to interactive media and personal creative practice.
Overview
This section collects music and sound design work connected to live coding, audiovisual performance, soundscape design, and musical interaction.
Pulse
Pulse is an audiovisual performance using TidalCycles and Hydra. It uses live manipulation of pre-written code to move through emotional phases of quietness, pain, struggle, strength, beauty, and blossom.
The project was inspired by Lifeline-Zeraphym and Sturm I - Fear. The former uses music and heartbeat sound to create an atmosphere that feels like a sad but hopeful story, while the latter combines rapid piano with sound effects and a repeating progressive melody.
Making music felt more like natural flow than meticulous design, but I wanted to show different emotional phases and create a metaphor for life’s quietness, pain, struggle, strength, beauty, and blossom. Because of the limited production time, I could not fully develop every part of the idea, but I tried to create a minimalist visual system where the transformation of a single line represents different emotional stages.
